Spider-Man: No Way Home Review (SPOILER FREE)

There's been so much hype surrounding the latest instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Tom Holland in the leading role of Peter Parker. All generations have been drawn into the excitement with even the mention of the film with theories escalating all over Twitter and Tiktok. It's almost impossible to not realise that the latest craze is going on. But was the hype all worth it?

For me, this film was something that I've been waiting on for literal months. When the second trailer was released, me and my housemate stayed up until 1:30am where we knew it would be released to watch it. In fact, I fell asleep on the sofa and she woke me up just as the YouTube notification pinged up on my phone. It was clicked within seconds and the trailer was on the TV with us going mental at the smallest details, picking up on each of the old villains appearances, references to the alternate timelines but still no confirmation of whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would in fact be reprising their roles as so many speculate. With fans diving in deeply, there were so many theories surrounding the whole 'multiverse' with spider-men from different timelines, especially with the appearance of the old original villains. Honestly though, I preferred keeping it as a mystery for me, not wanting to know until I was sat in the seat in the cinema watching the film.

That's why the morning of the film, I was extremely cautious on social media. I barely touched TikTok and avoided Twitter like the plague. A good decision on my behalf as my housemate saw a spoiler on twitter before we went out to the film. The whole day I was bouncing off the walls, counting down the time until we were going in. I had a grin on my face I couldn't wipe away and my stomach was doing flips until the moment I sat down and heard the signature theme playing through the surround sound speakers.

The atmosphere of the film was like no other that I've been to. The only one that came close was Avengers: Endgame where audiences were on their toes. For me, this one beat that. You could audibly hear the whole room gasp at once, you could hear people crying quietly to themselves (me being one sadly) and even, at one point, cheers. The whole film, I was on the edge of my seat. Seeing it in 4DX was the best thing too with the seats moving, though our cinema lacked the atmosphere effects of rain, wind and snow so I was slightly disappointed. When the seats moved though, my housemate grabbed my hand in panic and everyone in the screening were just giggling in shock. Honestly, it was amazing but next time, due to these lacks of effects, I would watch it in 3D as that definitely enhanced the experience in my opinion.

And the film itself... wow. That's what I have to say about it is wow. It was a work of art. I was worried that it would be overcrowded but

Marvel and Sony got the balance just perfect and the storyline flowed with a complete lack of confusion; everyone in the audience knew what was going on. Even those with limited marvel knowledge found it easy enough to follow. It was heart wrenching at moments and soul lifting at others. There was such a sense of nostalgia with the other villains from previous universes showing their faces against what is now our Spider-man as I would say Tom Holland has shown himself to really embrace and bring the role to life in this film especially. He showed it in Homecoming when he got trapped under rubble, showed it in Far From Home with his spidey-sense ability against Mysterio and this one in every way, especially seeing him battle old villains.

It's difficult writing this and not letting any spoilers slip free as it was the best spider-man film out there for me. So many elements of it just made me wish I could relive witnessing it for the first time again. I will definitely be trying to watch it again and my advice before going in: be prepared and take tissues. It may be called No Way Home, but it has a home in my heart.
